I joined LJA as an intern in the summer of 2022 during my junior year at Texas A&M. With graduation on the horizon, I was eager to begin my career as an engineer. That first summer not only opened my eyes to the world of engineering, but also solidified my decision about where I wanted to start my career. I had the privilege of continuing to intern part-time while completing my degree, and in 2023, I transitioned into a full-time Graduate Engineer role in Land Development.

The shift from intern to full-time has brought about many rewarding opportunities and introduced me to amazing people. As a Graduate Engineer, I’ve had the chance to work on a wide range of projects, taking them from concept to construction. Whether designing a unique project or gaining hands-on experience in the field, my time at LJA has far exceeded my expectations when I started as an intern.

Along the way, I’ve learned that it’s the people who make LJA great. From day one, I’ve been welcomed with open arms and encouraged to be the best version of myself. Working in the industry, I’ve come to realize that LJA’s success is driven by its Employee Owners. Being a part of the LJA family has provided me with an invaluable start to my career, and it’s something I carry as a badge of honor. I started as an Intern in 1999. It was my first semester out of high school and I was attending Camwood Community College, what is now Lonestar. I interned for 6 months when my manager at the time informed me that if I worked over 32 hours, I would be eligible for tuition reimbursement. More importantly, it allowed me to become an Employee-Owner. I worked all throughout college and while studying for my PE exam to become a professional engineer.

I have now been at LJA for over 20 years and have had every position you could potentially think of. From CAD 1, 2, and 3, to Designer 1, 2, and 3, from Project Manager, growing into the roles that followed and now – I am a Vice President of Land Development.

What makes LJA different? The people. The family atmosphere. My dad worked and retired here. Your clients and your friends become your family. It has been the people I’ve worked with and projects I’ve worked on. We get the best of the best – from projects to people. LJA has stepped up time and time again to take care of not just me, but all of their Employees-Owners. There isn’t another place like it.
