“The employee-owners at LJA were enormously welcoming to me and all the interns this summer. I enjoyed getting to know others on my team; they all cared that I learned important skills, included me on project meetings, and wanted me to enjoy the work I was doing this summer. In addition to gaining technical know-how in the office, I also had the opportunity to attend many site visits and gain a new perspective on the work we did by experiencing it in the field. Everyone I interacted with was a great communicator. From my first interview at the office all the way up to my last week of the internship I was made to feel like a valuable employee-owner. There is also an amazing office culture at LJA. I joined an intramural volleyball team, went to Rangers baseball games, played pickleball, and overall had an amazing summer with something fun to look forward to each week.”

During my first year as a graduate engineer, I’ve been able to work on multiple land development projects around the greater Houston area. I’ve been involved on all stages of a project from preliminary design to creating plan sets and even creating bid proposals for projects to be constructed. I have learned more in this first year than I would have ever imagined when I was starting. Learning from all the project managers and their immense knowledge of the field has been super impactful.

“As a graduate engineer, I’ve had the privilege of working on a diverse range of projects, with a particular focus on single-family residential land development. A standout experience has been my involvement in the Tamarron project, a 1,500-acre development in Fort Bend County. In this role, I’ve contributed to various aspects, including cost estimation, design, bidding, and contractor coordination. Additionally, I’ve had the exciting opportunity to be part of a new 1,500-acre project that launched at the beginning of my full-time career. Witnessing and contributing to a project from its inception has been incredibly rewarding, offering me valuable insights into large-scale development from the ground up.”

I began interning at LJA’s Austin office in the Transportation group shortly before graduating from UT Austin and starting full time. From day one, the environment was welcoming, and the staff was willing to teach me and answer any questions I had. I started at LJA as an intern, and over the past 10 years I have worked my way to becoming a senior project manager.

I believe I have found that here at LJA. LJA fosters a place for career growth from day one. Managers and staff are welcoming, helpful and willing to teach you throughout every step of the way. It has been exciting and fulfilling to work on projects not only across the state, but within my own community that make a positive direct impact to the public. After starting here 10 years ago as an intern, I have now worked my way up to become a senior project manager and share holder at LJA.
